The medals for 2023 Fukuoka World Swimming Championships, which is being held in Fukuoka for the first time in 22 years.

I was in charge of creating the medals for two events: the “2023 Fukuoka World Swimming Championships,” held in Fukuoka for a duration of 17 days from July 14th to July 30th, 2023, and the “2023 Kyushu World Masters Swimming Championships,” which took place in Fukuoka City, Kumamoto City, and Kagoshima City over 10 days from August 2nd to August 11th, 2023.
*The medal design was selected through a public competition that required applicants to be residents of Fukuoka City, Kumamoto City, or Kagoshima City and be 20 years of age or older.

Shining Waters Spreading Across the World

I have designed a medal combining the shape of Kyushu with the phenomenon known as “caustics,” where the surface of water shimmers, to capture the image of the glowing emotions of athletes, such as their courage and inspiration, spreading from the local community to the world stage in swimming competitions. The overlapping rings of light in the design symbolize the “bright future” of swimming and the “connection with people.” On the reverse side, I depicted the “rising waves” representing the evolution of athletes, competitions, and the local community, based on the tournament emblem.
